Garage Door
Fishers IN

Extreme cold in Hamilton County causes metal components like springs, rollers and tracks to contract and become brittle, often resulting in grinding or squeaking sounds. Additionally, the lubricant used on your door may thicken in low temperatures making it harder for the opener to pull the door up and down. Upgrading to nylon rollers and using a silicone-based lubricant designed for freezing temperatures can significantly reduce noise levels during Fishers' winter months.

It is recommended to have a professional garage door tune-up at least once a year, ideally in the fall before the first Indiana frost. This preventive maintenance includes checking the spring tension, inspecting cables for fraying and ensuring the weatherstripping is intact to keep out cold air and pests. Frequent inspections help Fisher’s residents avoid emergency repairs during the peak of winter when technicians are in high demand.

If you hear a loud bang and your door won't open your torsion spring has likely snapped due to the added stress of freezing temperatures. You should never attempt to replace a garage door spring yourself as they are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury. Contact a local Fishers repair specialist immediately and avoid using the electric opener, as this can burn out the motor while trying to lift the dead weight of the door.
